On November 13th, DFW-UPA participated in World Usability Day at events at Sabre, iMC2, and online via webcasts.  Brian Sullivan, DFW-UPA President, gave an online Sustainable Transportation presentation from the World Usability Day website.

At Sabre, 23 interactive booths were setup on various topics including:

  • Top 20 Green Hotels
  • Design of Everyday Things
  • Understanding What a User Hears
  • Eye-tracking Competition
  • Green Car Quiz
  • Mobile Check-in
  • Travel Data from Market Research

Campus tours were given by the Sustainability team an Open House of the Sabre Usability Labs occurred.

Ryan Merritt and Kimberly Richards from GetThere show off their swanky booth on Bad Travel Signage from around the world.  Participants guessed at the meaning of the signs messages, then they could go to the back of the booth to see if they “guessed” right.

NOTE:  One sign looked like a hand coming up from the ground, which many people guessed as Zombies.  As it turns out, it is a sign from Iceland about “Falling through Thin Ice.”

Parked between the two main campus buildings were two Ford hybrid automobiles. Microsoft spotlighted their Sync technology, exclusively used in Ford cars, and a Microsoft Sync Specialist was available to answer questions.

Over 500 people visited the interactive booths in Southlake alone, which doubled last year’s turnout. Check out the photos from throughout the day and to see the Travelocity Gnome preparing to drive away in one of the Ford cars.  Also, view short videos to get a feel for the day.

Lou Capone and iMC.com celebrated World Usability Day with a Keynote Speaker, Andy Bell from the DFW Airport.  The DFW Airport fits nicely into the them of Transportation, as they have air, car, hotel, rail, taxis, buses, cargo, and more to transport people, luggage, and cargo.

Lou used UstreamTV to videostream the event to a borader audience, which included people in Texas, Illinois, New York, and Florida.  Human Factors International, Knowbility, DFW Airport, and DFW-UPA were among the many guests invited to participate in the event.

Danielle Arvanitis handled the DFW-UPA booth, which included a sign-up sheet, information about DFW-UPA, and an interactive Green Car Quiz.  If you have any questions, please contact Brian Sullivan.
